. . : : Hobbies : : . .
For now I think I'll loosely focus on posting about hobby activity. I like the word hobby, to me a hobby is an activity engaged in purely for the love of it with no intention of it becoming more than that. As a boy at my school said to me in the lunch queue when I asked him whether he was going to become a photographer after he left school: "When your hobby becomes your work, you've lost your hobby"
On that note, while sat on the loo reflecting on what this means I would end up posting about, these topics came to mind as they are the things I do the most for love with no hope or plan to ever try and make money from:
- Long distance hiking
- Running
- Listening to and collecting music, namely cassettes
- Tinkering with computers
I read, but don't really consider it a 'hobby', I'm not sure what I class it as, but I am definitely not an intelligent or engaged enough reader to ever have much to say about the things I've read.
Likewise I climb a fair bit, but it's mostly been indoor bouldering for a while now. I can't quite put my finger on it, but while it's an activity I love and do enthusiastically, I'm not interested in beyond doing it. The activities I listed above I am interested in. I read about them and research them and get excited about in a way that inclines me to talk about them to others. I don't feel this with climbing.
